What is Marine Airbag?

A marine airbag is a cylindrical inflatable rubber container reinforced with multi-layer synthetic tire-cord fabric. It consists of an inner airtight rubber layer, multi-layer reinforcement cords, and an outer wear-resistant rubber layer, vulcanized integrally. When inflated with compressed air, it forms a rigid cylinder capable of bearing heavy loads or generating buoyancy. Widely used for ship launching, haul-out, shipwreck salvage, underwater lifting, and heavy cargo moving.

Working Principle

Marine airbags work on the 'cylinder rolling principle' and 'air spring effect'. For ship launching, the airbag rolls between the hull and ground with a friction coefficient below 0.05, requiring only 2-5% of the ship's weight as traction force. For salvage, underwater inflation displaces water to generate buoyancy per Archimedes' principle — a 2.5m x 24m airbag can generate over 100 tons of net buoyancy. The multi-layer cord reinforcement ensures the airbag can withstand high internal pressure without rupture.

High Buoyancy Marine Airbag

Advantages

(1) High load capacity: single airbag can bear over 500 tons.

(2) Low rolling friction coefficient (<0.05), minimal traction required.

(3) Flexible deployment, no fixed slipway or dry dock needed.

(4) 80% cost saving compared to traditional launching infrastructure.

(5) Reusable for 6-10 years with proper maintenance.

(6) Safety valve and 1.5x hydrostatic test before delivery.

High Buoyancy Marine Airbag

Applications

(1) Ship launching: Newbuilding vessels from slipway to water.

(2) Ship haul-out and repair: Vessels moved to land for maintenance.

(3) Shipwreck salvage and rescue: Underwater buoyancy lifting.

(4) Underwater engineering: Caisson floating, pipeline installation.

(5) Heavy cargo moving: Large steel structures, bridge segments.

(6) Emergency response: Grounded vessel refloating, temporary protection.

Installation Guide

Installation steps: (1) Pre-installation inspection: Check airbag appearance, verify accessories (slings, shackles, pressure gauge, air hose), prepare air compressor, clear work area. (2) Inflation: Place airbag flat, connect air hose, inflate slowly to 50% rated pressure and check for leaks, then continue to rated working pressure, close valve, wait 30 min to confirm stable pressure. (3) Positioning: For ship launching, place airbags perpendicular to vessel axis at equal spacing; for salvage, divers fix airbags to load-bearing points underwater. (4) Operation monitoring: Assign personnel to monitor pressure and condition, control moving/lifting speed. (5) Recovery: Deflate, rinse with fresh water, dry, and store in cool dry place.

Maintenance

After each use: Rinse with fresh water, inspect for damage, repair minor cuts. Monthly: Check inflation pressure (50% rated), inspect for aging cracks, check metal fittings. Quarterly: Anti-corrosion treatment for metal parts, inspect slings. Annually: Full inspection, 24-hour air tightness test, dimension measurement. Long-term storage: Inflate to 50% rated pressure, store in cool dry ventilated warehouse, inspect every 3 months. Service life: 6-10 years under normal conditions.

Standards & Certifications

All products comply with ISO 14409:2011 (Ship launching and haul-out airbags) and ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Classification society inspections available: CCS (China), BV (France), ABS (USA), DNV (Norway), LR (UK), NK (Japan). Each airbag undergoes 24-hour air tightness test, 1.5x working pressure hydrostatic test, and dimension inspection before delivery. Product certificate and inspection report provided with each shipment.

FAQ

Q: What is the service life of marine airbags?

A: 6-10 years under normal use and proper maintenance.

Q: How to select the right airbag size?

A: Based on vessel weight, hull form, and operation type. Total buoyancy should be 1.2-1.5x the underwater weight for salvage. We provide professional selection calculation.

Q: Can a leaking airbag be repaired?

A: Minor cuts can be repaired with rubber repair compound; deep cuts or punctures require factory repair followed by air tightness and hydrostatic tests.

Q: Can airbags be used in cold environments?

A: Yes, our low-temperature resistant formula works from -30°C to +60°C. Adjust inflation pressure for temperature changes.

Q: What is the delivery time?

A: Standard sizes in stock, 5-10 working days; custom sizes 15-25 working days. OEM/ODM available.
